Greetings, internet people!
Once again, let us start by taking a look at how last week’s priorities, namely preparing for upcoming exams, reestablishing my workout routine, and working on my game, a difficult tetris-like with hexagons (polyhexes), went…
The exam preparation, a reoccurring boring topic, happened…
What didn’t happen, however, was me getting back on track working out. I do not really have an excuse. It’s my fault entirely. I do, however, have some reasons which explain, how I could do it better next time. I had very much free time this week, so all of my days were unstructured. The second reason was a lack of intrinsic motivation, I had extrinsic motivation, as I didn’t want to “humiliate” (for lack of a better term) myself, but I had no other reason. It seems to me, that extrinsic motivations, for me at least, aren’t sustainable in the long run. I may have figured out a way, how I would be able to create intrinsic motivations by connecting it to personal goals.
I did work on multiple aspects of my game, but let me elaborate more deeply:
I think, I have finally solved my row clearing problems entirely, which came to be through last week’s decision to clear entire rows instead of just the left or right side of the board. I did make the compromise of having some cells fuse under specific circumstances.
Other than that, I didn’t really code as much, but that does not mean that I did not develop. I have spent much time thinking and structuring further ideas. I finally figured, how I want to give points for clearing rows. Further, I decided to add a holding feature for polyhexes.
Next, a lightning round of things I did this week:
The reason for the lack of coding which happened was partly due to the fact, that I decided to newly set up my computer, as I had realized that I didn’t really like nixOS as much as I had thought half a year ago. So, I switched to Linux Mint. I had some problems considering my graphics drivers. So, I tried to fix those for multiple days, only to then realize that it was a software issue. The flatpak version of the program seemingly didn’t recognize the driver or something…
Also, I helped someone move.
I thought about a Minecraft Datapack to craft paper planes and further features.
I helped out at a sport's festival.
I had to revisit some parts of my essay collecting thoughts about A.I. . Especially, the chapter on learning and the fast pace of media needed an overhaul.
Learning-wise, I have been listening to a podcast / documentary about the end of the second world war in Europe.
Finally, I finished reading my current book. It wasn’t really a good experience reading it, as the book was tirelessly trying to waste my time by stretching information that could have been put on like 20 pages (including good examples) on to 200+ pages with a miniscule font size. The writing style, however, didn’t allow me to really skip any parts, because every page could hide interesting bits and pieces.
My priorities for this week are the same as before:
this week I will reestablish my workout routine
I need to get a lot of work done on my game, before next week’s break due to the Game Jam
I am getting close to the finish line, but there are still 2 unwritten exams which need me to heavily prepare.
Ole370’s Weekly Report will return next week…
