I liked the This one needs to be short introduction of the last one, so we’ll start in the same way this week. I think keeping it short, does help me, not to ramble on too much about certain things. Anyway, let’s start with the question of how my priorities of last week - namely working on my python game, writing my AI pamphlet and further studying, as exam season just started - went…
Studying went quite well, for the first upcoming exams are some rather easy ones, or at least ones covering topics I am very good at.
Writing my AI text, I got a lot done, actually. The sub-topics I have written about this week were the future of work, environmental impact of AI and intellectual thievery in the training of AI. Also, while researching, I stumbled upon the term stochastic parrots to describe AI, coined by Emily M. Bender, which I think perfectly describes my views on AI, which basically only repeats words likely to follow another.

Lastly, work on my game, Hexenhütte, a difficult tetris-like with local multiplayer elements, stagnated, as I made the decision to first focus on the AI text. I only talked to an old developer friend of mine to get some inspiration, found a solution to some multiplayer movements concerns I had, and added a basic version of the local multiplayer game back-end, which I haven’t tested yet.
The reason for why I decided, to first focus on the AI text is simple and perfectly fits this week’s title, project-overdosed: working on too many projects at once causes problems. I realized that I on many different occasions over the last two weeks asked myself whether I should now work on the game or my comment on AI technology. Each day I asked this question I spend a significant amount of time pondering this question, and no matter my decision I felt a bit of guilt, neglecting the other project. I think this happens, because I have two “bigger” projects going on, so hence the decision to pause one for a week.
Now going over to lightning round of things, I also did do this week.
I completely filled another notebook, so I started a new one and spend much time this week digitizing notes from the old one.
I committed to entering a Minecraft Datapack Jam in mid-June together with a friend.
I started sketching out the idea of a Minecraft Datapack to play Minesweeper, as a training for said jam.
I planned to take a week off from pygame again, when I have a working demo, to fully focus on some paperwork which is due in July.
For next week, these will be my priorities…
finish writing my comment on AI technology
having more conversations
preparing / studying for upcoming exams
as explained before, I won’t work on my game this week.
Ole370’s Weekly Report will return next week…
